Eyal Shifroni: How to Sync the Practice with the Aging Process

Eyal Shifroni On-Demand

Recorded: 04/02/2023

In this workshop, “How to Synch the Practice with the Aging Process”, recorded on April 2, 2023, Eyal Shifroni explores how to use props to adapt your yoga practice to the changing capabilities of the body and how to stay longer in supported asanas that open the body and keep the mind fresh and alert. Each posture is presented with three options so you can learn how to sync your practice with the aging process without over-doing nor under-doing. For Eyal, the essence of the practice doesn’t change, only the form in which it is done and you are invited to join him in this workshop as he explores these concepts with you. For this workshop, ideally you should have the following props or substitutes available: 2-3 blankets, a bolster, 1-2 belts, 2 cork or wooden blocks, and a chair. Be sure to download the accompanying handout as well.

In this workshop, you will learn how to use props to adapt our practice to the changing capabilities of the body and how to stay longer in supported asanas that open the body and keep the mind fresh and alert. For Eyal, the essence of the practice doesn’t change, only the form in which it is done.

The essence is: “I apply myself (Tapas); I study myself (Svadhyaya) and I surrender myself”.

These principles do not depend on what you can or can’t do, and they should not change with aging. However, in the aging process, our bodies do change and we lose some capabilities, which is hard to accept. If we can develop sensitivity and wisdom into our practice, we will learn to sync our practice with the aging process without over-doing nor under-doing.

Aging is not only about decline – we also refine our practice to bring more depth born from experience and wisdom.
