Impermanence: A Practice of Remembering the Self

Peentz Dubble On-Demand

Recorded: 02/26/2023

In this workshop, “Impermanence: A Practice of Remembering the Self”, recorded on February 26, 2023, Peentz Dubble explores through asana and pranayama the rich topic of impermanence as we age.  With aging, we become aware of changes in our physical bodies, present circumstances, abilities and possibilities. How does our practice of Yoga, and especially Pranayama, help us navigate loss as well as re-connect to that which is timeless and ageless, the Self within?  Join Peentz in this workshop, as she explores these concepts with you.

Guided Meditation

Led by Roni Brissette, this Guided Meditation on Impermanence complements the workshop by Peentz Dubble. Roni’s study of Mindfulness precedes her 30 years as an Iyengar Yoga teacher.  With an emphasis on mindful attention and a path of reflection, Roni invites you to explore this meditation with the spirit of, “Make the experiment and see what comes.”

AUDIO ONLY VERSION

Roni Brissette is an Iyengar Yoga teacher for nearly 30 years and her path to the study of Mindfulness preceded her yoga studies. Roni was in the first class of Dr. Herb Benson, author of the Relaxation Response. Her training has included courses with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach as well as work with Sharon Salzberg, Sylvia Boorstein, Pema Chodron, Joseph Goldstein and Trudy Goodman. Roni began teaching a Mindfulness course in 2014 and weaves the teaching into her Body Wisdom yoga classes. Her focus is on Vipassana meditation which is at the heart of Buddhist meditation. This practice emphasizes mindful attention, developing an immediate or “face to face” experience in all spheres of activity. Roni is thrilled to have you experience the benefits of Mindfulness Meditation as part of the Yoga and Aging series.

Learning Lab with Rahel Wasserfall

Sunday, March 12 – Rahel Wasserfall

In this Learning Lab based on the workshop, “Impermanence: A Practice of Remembering the Self”, Rahel Wasserfall, PhD, Certified Level 2 Iyengar Yoga Teacher (CIYT) of Artemis Yoga leads you through a sequence, initially taught by Peentz Dubble. With interactive question and answer, Rahel offers an interpretation of Peentz’s workshop through asana and pranayama while also reviewing the yoga sutras that connect to the causes of suffering. The Learning Lab is an opportunity to review, reinforce and enhance the Yoga and Aging workshops.

Peentz Dubble

Peentz Dubble has been a leader and integral member of the Iyengar Yoga Community in the Northeast for more than 30 years before moving to St. Petersburg, FL in 2017. Peentz became a Certified Iyengar Teacher in 1984 and was Co-Director of the first Iyengar Yoga Center in New York City and later a founding faculty member of the current Iyengar Yoga Institute of New York. She assisted Patricia Walden in the BKS Iyengar Teacher Training Program from 1994-2011 and continues to serve as an assessor for the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States (IYNAUS) Teacher Certification Program. Peentz’ greatest joy is teaching and helping students to awaken to their full, brilliant potential through this amazing gift of yoga. Her deep love of poetry and imagery infuses this workshop.

“As we age, the questions that we ask ourselves are different from the questions we asked when we were younger, and the answers are different. So the mind that asks the questions and answers them has to shift.”

As we age, we become more intimate with change. We become aware of changes in our physical bodies, present circumstances, abilities, and possibilities. The people, places, and things we have come to love and depend on may no longer be present in our lives. The reality of death becomes a more frequent occurrence. We may face these losses by experiencing anxiety, fear, clinging, and aversion (Abhinivesa). This is one of the main causes of suffering (Klesha) of which Patanjali speaks in the Yoga Sutras.

How does our practice of Yoga, and especially Pranayama, help us navigate loss as well as re-connect to that which is timeless and ageless, the Self within?

Join Peentz in this workshop as she explores this rich topic with you! This workshop will begin with a short discussion, and then move into Asana and Pranayama.
